Meet Some of Our Favorite Search and Rescue Dogs

Hasty

Hasty was Summit County’s first rescue dog. Over his unusually long 12-year career, he went on more than 100 missions. He was certified in water, avalanche and wilderness airscent through the Search and Rescue Dogs of Colorado organization.

Sandy

Burnett had two other working SAR dogs after Hasty — Sandy and Magic — and now almost every Summit County ski resort has avalanche rescue dog teams on hand. Sandy and Magic were also certified with SARDOC in avalanche, wilderness air scent, and water search.

Magic

Magic also trained with the Denver FEMA disaster dog team. Eventually, he became a service dog in the chiropractic office Patti worked in. “People would come in there and be sad or in pain and (when he approached them) you could see them light up. Their whole countenance changed.”
